A smart show would've had Ash win by using Electroweb's new properties to outsmart Mimikyu and prove to be the best trainer over Team Rocket, instead not only is Electroweb's only usage to be a glorified shield for a Z-Move after only minimal foreshadowing earlier, but it's not even used further beyond the reveal in favor of Ash forming the Pikashunium-Z out of nowhere again, even if the move is still unexplained and Ash has done absolutely nothing to try to understand how it works, unlike how he worked out Blaze and tried to see how to use his bond with Greninja effectively, since SM has this terrible trend to introduce plot elements and then develop them on a whim rather than feeling like there is a plan. My issue is that, after putting a challenge ahead of Ash, they had him overcome it with a twofold deus ex machina rather than actually letting him overcome him with his smarts and strategy, which is one of Ash's key defining traits, which made his win feel unearned. See, while I actually preferred Electro Ball, I'm neutral towards Electroweb as a move since, for the most part, it can be just as strategic as Electro Ball was even if it doesn't fit Ash's speedy battle style as much as a move that's actually powered up by speed. That said, I feel that the ending of the battle is really where the majority of the problems of this episode show themselves, especially so since it could've been solved rather easily.
